6 Must-Have 1950s Vintage Style Dresses You Need To Bring Back Glamorous Vintage Fashion

For fashion tragics like me living in a post-modern 21st century is great! Fashion-wise pretty much anything goes. So, if you still have your belted-cardigans and parachute pants, hold onto them, with a slither of luck even they (may) come back in fashion.
But you and I know that just because something is popular or trending this doesn't, in '50s parlance, chrome-plate a wet-rag.
So while fashion trends can change at the speed of social media 'Likes' there will always be a timeless charm to the big, beautiful Rockabilly dresses of the 1950s.
Here are my 6 must-have vintage style dresses inspired by the 1950s which will blast you back to 'Fat City' and a time that was far out.
1 - The iconic silhouette of the 1950's was the A-Line. Cinched waists, full dresses to capture the classic, hourglass figure. Add a pair of matching gloves and you were cookin’ !

2 - The iconic style was the appliqué. This was a design or image sewn onto the skirt of a dress. Poodles were hip but images could be anything. Of course all things Paris were très populaire.

3 - The bell-shaped skirts and dresses were the iconic symbol of the time. So much so that they could be worn to casual family picnics or formal dinners. They were glammed up for red carpet events or toned down for the local town bash. Solid colours were square but Polka Dot reigned as the queen of patterns.

4 - By evening, dresses were satin, tulle or lace. Accessorise with jewellery and longer gloves for an unreal elegant look.

5 - The 1950s lifestyle was outdoors and the sunshine.  Bright floral patterns were an invitation to spend time with family or scooches in the open-air, feathery breeze fluttering the dress.

6 -  1950s was about flirting... use words if necessary!
Dresses didn’t have to be elaborate or short to be flirty. This full-length dress with a classic shape and small white polka dots would razz anyone's berries.
